NEW YORK — Joanna Coles, editor in chief of Marie Claire, took the stage at the GEM Awards to accept the award for journalistic excellence on behalf of the magazine. Coles began by reading from a note her husband had given her. “Dear GEM Awards committee, seriously, you think my wife needs an award for her obsession with jewelry? For God’s sake, you’re enabling her. She doesn’t need an award, she needs an intervention,” deadpanned Coles. The editor laughed, admitting, “I am a jewelaholic.”
